The MDR recorded 338 fake posts since 24 July, some carrying its logo and fabricated allegations against politicians

Many posts use AI-generated content and imitate outlets including MDR, Tagesschau and Der Spiegel

Security authorities link the material to the pro-Russian “Matryoshka” campaign, which has targeted German elections before

Authorities say the operation seeks to polarise German society, including by amplifying divisions between eastern and western Germany
