French Parliament Approves Assisted Dying Law

France has passed a landmark law allowing assisted dying for eligible terminally ill patients after years of political and ethical debate.

France has approved its first law permitting medically assisted dying under strict legal conditions

The legislation limits eligibility to competent adults with an incurable, advanced illness causing unbearable suffering after a rigorous medical assessment

Parliament also adopted a separate law to expand access to palliative care across the country

The vote marks a major shift in French end-of-life policy and brings France closer to several European countries that already allow assisted dying under tightly regulated conditions
