Kajsa Ollongren Named EEAS Secretary General

Kaja Kallas has appointed Kajsa Ollongren as the new secretary general of the European External Action Service (EEAS), reinforcing the EU’s diplomatic leadership amid growing geopolitical pressure.

Kajsa Ollongren will become the EEAS secretary general on 1 September

Ollongren comes from the same liberal political family as Kallas

The appointments come as the EEAS faces rising internal and geopolitical pressure

Ollongren previously served as Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister of the Netherlands and currently works as the EEAS special representative for human rights
