The Commission’s 2026 work programme focuses on strengthening EU sovereignty, competitiveness, and resilience. Key actions include the Industrial Accelerator Act, a Critical Raw Materials Centre, single market reforms, new defence and migration policies, and initiatives for quality jobs. Further priorities are food and climate resilience, democracy protection, and continued support for Ukraine and Moldova. Simplification to save €8.6 billion annually is a central goal, while the Commission plans at the same time the allocation of ambitious funding for policies under a nearly €2 trillion as outlined in the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) for 2028 to 2034 to “support competitiveness, decarbonisation, security, cohesion and Europe’s global mission”. The Commission still needs the Parliament and Council to agree on this extensive framework.
