We are looking for a committed People & Culture Lead to oversee and further develop the organisation’s people operations, internal communication, and volunteer management.
As European Relations is a non-profit organisation, all positions are volunteer and unpaid.
About European Relations Association (ERA)
European Relations is a volunteer-based non-profit organisation focused on international affairs, European politics, and global governance. We publish analyses, commentary, and research while providing students and young professionals with opportunities to gain experience in international policy and organisational leadership. Our goal is to make young people’s expertise heard in the European discourse.
As ERA continues to grow, we are establishing a dedicated People & Culture Department to strengthen organisational processes, recruitment, and internal development.
📌What You’ll Do
- Lead the People & Culture Department and coordinate all people-related processes across the organisation;
- Coordinate recruitment pipelines, onboarding procedures, and volunteer administration in collaboration with the other departments;
- Facilitate internal communication and ensure information flows effectively between teams;
- Support team leads and volunteers by maintaining a positive, inclusive, and well-structured working environment;
- Work on strategies to strengthen organisational culture, internal transparency, and long-term volunteer engagement.
You will work closely with your colleagues in the People & Culture team (Hiring Officers and in the future additional team members) and collaborate with all other departments, ensuring that tasks are shared, coordinated, and never carried out in isolation.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience in HR, people management, organisational coordination, or team leadership in a student organisation, NGO, association, think tank, or similar environment;
- Excellent command of English (written and spoken) at C1 level or above;
- Enrolment in at least the second year of a Bachelor’s programme or a completed degree;
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills;
- A structured, reliable working style and the ability to work independently;
- Experience in volunteer management or non-profit operations is an advantage, but not required;
- A proactive mindset, attention to detail, and enthusiasm for collaborative organisational development;
- Estimated workload: up to 5 hours per week, with flexible scheduling. The role is open to applicants based in Europe or elsewhere, provided that working in European time is feasible.
What We Offer
- You will help shape our structure, processes, and long-term strategy, leaving a lasting institutional footprint on the organisation.
- Unlike many volunteer roles with predefined tasks, you will actively design recruitment systems, onboarding frameworks, and internal policies and communication, influencing how ERA grows and operates across Europe and beyond.
- Gain strong experience for careers in HR, international organisations, NGOs, consulting, or policy institutions.
- The chance to combine tangible experience in HR and organisational governance with the possibility to publish articles and policy pieces on European Relations, strengthening your academic or professional portfolio.
- Opportunity to work with a diverse, international team of students and young professionals engaged in international affairs and European policy.
- ERA is fully remote and volunteer-based, offering flexible time commitment and location-independent collaboration, ideal alongside studies or early-career work.
“Working with the European Relations team is an incredibly enriching experience, defined by mutual appreciation, commitment, and the freedom to bring in your own ideas.” (Nicolás Heck, Editor-in-Chief)
