Briefing Analysis Task (approx. 300-500 words)

For this stage of the application, please prepare a short briefing-style analysis. Choose one recent news item or policy development from an EU institution (e.g., European Commission, European Parliament, Council, CJEU, an EU agency) that you consider relevant and suitable for a concise analytical briefing.

Use a few different sources (e.g., from the EU institution, news media, think tanks, …) and link the sources as hyperlinks in the text.
Your text should be around 500 words and follow this structure:

1. Summary of the News / Development

Give a clear overview of the event or decision. Where possible, address the following questions:

  • What happened?
  • Who was involved?
  • When and where did it take place?
  • How did it unfold?
  • Why is it relevant?
  • What potential impact could it have?

This section should remain factual and concise.

2. Contextualisation

Provide a brief background and context to help readers understand the significance of the development, including for example:

  • A short historical or procedural background
  • Key institutional context (e.g., stage of a legislative procedure, competences, mandates)
  • Reactions from relevant stakeholders (such as governments of EU member states, political groups, industry or civil society actors, EU agencies, or academic voices)

Evaluation criteria for your briefing text include accuracy of the information, structure, clarity, analytical depth, and your ability to write in an accessible briefing style.

Please submit your briefing via the form below within 7-10 days.
