Wallonia’s Education Protests Trigger Restrictions

Students and school pupils across Wallonia are protesting rising education costs and reforms, while unrest in Liège has prompted sweeping restrictions on public gatherings.

Hundreds have demonstrated in Liège and other cities in Wallonia. Protesters demand affordable education, better learning conditions and sufficient teachers

Standard higher-education fees have risen from €835 to €1,194 this academic year, with income-based reductions and exemptions

Police reported 107 arrests in Liège since 1 October, including 80 administrative detentions. Following violence and property damage, gatherings exceeding three people are restricted until 16 October, with exceptions
