European Relations’ Mission

European Relations is dedicated to giving students, graduates, and young professionals the opportunity to publish early in their careers and engage in public and academic discourse on European affairs. We believe that emerging voices are essential for shaping Europe’s future, and our platform reflects this by offering two distinct publication formats: European Relations Blog, where contributors publish Think Tank–style articles at the intersection of academic and journalistic writing, and European Relations Academics, which is intended to become a digital library of academic papers and theses originally written in a university context. Together, these formats amplify interdisciplinary discourse on a broad spectrum of European topics, including both European-level questions and national and international issues examined from a European perspective and vice versa. Guided by values of openness, inclusivity, and intellectual rigour, we empower our contributors to broaden their perspectives, strengthen their skills, and achieve real-world impact. In this way, European Relations is not only a publishing platform but also a growing community dedicated to dialogue, accessibility, and innovative thinking on Europe’s evolving role in the world.

Organisational Culture of European Relations

European Relations is a non-profit, volunteer-driven organisation built on the commitment of students, graduates, and young professionals who contribute their time and expertise without financial compensation. This voluntary structure shapes our organisational culture: we rely on trust, motivation, and a shared passion for European and international affairs rather than formal hierarchies or financial incentives. Many dedicated young people contribute their excellent work to European Relations, but since all work is voluntary and unpaid, clear and reliable communication and a little patience are the backbone of how we function. It ensures that, despite our informal structure, we meet the high standards we set for ourselves in professional publishing. We are committed to providing our contributors with a platform that is not only visible and impactful but also operates with the same responsibility as established publishing outlets. This entails adhering to ethical and legal standards, maintaining quality, and offering young authors a professional environment where their work is valued and taken seriously, thereby supporting them in developing their writing and analytical skills. 

At the same time, our culture fosters openness, inclusivity, and collaboration across disciplines, encouraging members to broaden their perspectives and contribute meaningfully to European and national discourses. The result is a community that combines the flexibility and scalability of volunteer engagement with the rigour and responsibility of professional publishing, dedicated to amplifying emerging voices in European debates.
